Exton consists of fifteen houses, a church and a farm, in the heart of Exmoor National Park.

The Church of St. Peter in Exton
Perched on the steep side of the Exe valley, we are within walking distance of Winsford Hill and the river Exe, and surrounded by idyllic countryside full of flowers, wildlife, birds and history.
Countless footpaths and bridleways crisscross the area, and there are plenty of long distance and less demanding walks which can start and end in Exton

Exton
Exton has a total population of 230 and that includes Bridgetown and the outlying farms.
It's listed in the Domesday Book and enjoyed a brief period of prosperity during the late 19th century local mining boom.
The church - part of it recently discovered to be Saxon and therefore with a claim to being one of the oldest on Exmoor, is worth a visit. The School, Inn and Vicarage are now all private houses and have been for many years.
Exton House was built in 1871 as the Rectory to the parish of Exton and now offers self catering accommodation. |
